WELCOME TO THE TIN WHISTLES-FIRST TEE JUNIOR GOLF TOUR

“JUNIOR GOLFERS PLAYING THE SANDHILLS FINEST GOLF COURSES”

“11TH YEAR PROMOTING JUNIOR GOLF”

Each summer The Tin Whistles together with The First Tee of the Sandhills conduct a golf tour for boys and girls ages 17 and under. The mission of the Tour is to help young players realize their potential in competitive tournaments within a learning environment while enjoying the game, practicing the core values of The First Tee, and developing respect for the game. The goal is to help prepare players for high school and college competition.

All entrants must have basic golfing skills, a general understanding of the rules and etiquette of golf, and be able to walk the course.

Experienced players will play 18 hole tournaments and adhere to the USGA Rules of Golf. The more skilled players will play from either the blue or white tees, while lesser skilled players will play from the forward tees with slightly modified rules in order to promote speed of play. Players will not be allowed caddies or coaches but may use pull carts where permissible by the club.

New and younger players, generally 12 and under, will play 9 hole tournaments and are encouraged to have a caddie/coach. Players will play either from the course’s forward tees or a special set of shorter tees. Players and their caddies will be transported from green to tees by Tin Whistle members who will provide instruction and encouragement as needed.

All tournaments will be conducted by Tin Whistle members or First Tee Staff, who will be the tournament officials. They will marshal the field to keep a reasonable pace of play, act as rules officials, hydrate players, answer any questions, and handle other needs that may arise.

Relatives and friends are welcome to attend and cheer their player but will be restricted to cart paths and may not coach players unless serving as a caddy.

If you have any questions about the tour or to the ability of a player to compete please contact us. We are eager to assist junior golfers to participate in what we are confident will be a very positive experience.
