About the Tour
ELIGIBILITY
The Tin Whistles – First Tee Junior Tour is open to boys and girls 17 and under as of June 14, 2010, or still in high school. All entrants must have basic golfing skills, an understanding of the rules of golf and be able to walk the course. Players 12 and older will play 18 holes each day of an event; players 11 and under will play 9 holes each day.
Players 11 and under must be able to complete a 9 hole course in a timely manner, and must be aware of and practice proper course etiquette while playing. If a player is unaware of honors or the proper method of “marking a ball”, we ask that he or she not compete. The more skilled players in the 11 and under category will be playing from the course’s forward tee boxes. The other players will play a shortened course of approximately 2000 yards. Players 11 and under may have a parent or other adult caddy for them. Caddy Rules of Conduct will apply.
Players 12 and older will play established tee boxes varied by flights from the forward tees to back tees depending on the course and the makeup of the flights. Players will be expected to complete their rounds in four hours carrying their own bags.
All play will be governed by USGA Rules except where local rules take precedence.
All events will be conducted by a “team” of Tin Whistles members who will be the tournament officials. They will marshal the field to keep a reasonable pace of play, act as rules officials, hydrate the players, answer any questions and handle any needs that may arise.
Parents and friends are welcome to come out and observe and cheer on players. You will be restricted to the cart paths and no coaching is permitted except for 11 and under players where the individual is serving as a caddy.
If you have any questions about the tour or the ability of a player to compete please send us an email. We are eager to assist your junior golfer to participate in what will be a very positive experience.
The Tour Championship
A unique feature of the Tin Whistles-First Tee Tour series is the “race” for the Tour Championship. Designed much like the FED-EX Cup professional competition, players will be awarded points for each event based on their order of finish. The player with the most points at the end of the Tour Series will be declared “Tour Champion”. He or she will have their name inscribed on the Tour Championship Trophy which resides in the Tin Whistles display in the Tufts Archives section of the Givens Memorial Library in Pinehurst, North Carolina. The Champion and his or her family will also be invited to the Tine Whistles Annual Christmas Gala at which a Replica Tour Championship Trophy will be presented.
Points will be awarded at each event for each flight. The number of places receiving points will depend on the number of participants in a flight.
3 – 4 Players 2 Places
5 -6 Players 3 Places
7 -9 Players 5 Places
Points awarded per place are:
1st Place 100 points
2nd Place 80 points
3rd Place 60 points
4th Place 40 points
5th Place 30 points
All players not placing will receive 10 points.
Flights are set up for both the 11 and under players and the 12 and older players depending on age, gender and skill levels. These flights will vary for each tournament depending on the number of entrants, and the age and gender of the entrants. The goal is to have as many as nine players of the same gender all within two years of age of each other in a flight, but no flight can have fewer than three players; therefore it may be necessary to mix genders and expand the age differential in some tour events. Players with proven skill levels above their age are encouraged to play up in flights.
